Kanopy is a free video streaming service available through the library. With your Champlain Library card, you can watch a wide range of films, documentaries, educational videos, and children’s programming from home.
Kanopy works much like other streaming services, but it’s completely free with your library membership.

- Save films to your watchlist
Once you start a film, you usually have 72 hours to finish watching it.

Monthly Play Credits
Champlain Library users receive 7 play credits per month on Kanopy.
Each time you start a film, a certain number of credits may be used depending on the title. Your credits reset on the first day of each month, and unused credits do not roll over.
Once you start watching a film, you can watch it as many times as you like during the viewing period without using additional credits.
Watch Kanopy on Your Device
You can watch Kanopy on many different devices:
- On iPhone and iPad through the Apple App Store
- On Android devices through Google Play
- In your web browser at: https://www.kanopy.com
Kanopy is also available on many smart TVs and streaming devices.
How to Get Started
Getting started with Kanopy only takes a few steps:

Loan Periods
Kanopy films have a limited viewing window once you press play.
For most movies and documentaries, you will have about 72 hours (3 days) to finish watching. During that time, you can watch the film as many times as you like. If you start it again after the viewing window ends, it will use another play credit.
The exact viewing period can vary slightly depending on the title, but it will always be clearly shown before you press play.
Using Kanopy: The Basics
Once you’ve signed in, you can:
- Browse or search for films
- Add titles to your watchlist
- Start streaming instantly
- Track your remaining monthly credits
- Continue watching where you left off

Kanopy Kids
Kanopy also includes a dedicated children’s section called Kanopy Kids. It offers a curated selection of educational and entertaining shows for younger viewers.
Kanopy Kids titles do not use play credits, making it a great option for families.

Kanopy also offers The Great Courses, a collection of university-level lecture series on topics like history, science, philosophy, and more.
Champlain Library users can access 1 Great Course per month.
When you start a course, you receive access to the entire course for 30 days from the moment you first press play.
This means:
- You do not need to finish it within the calendar month.
- Your 30-day access starts when you first begin the course.
- Once the 30 days expire, you will need to wait until the next month to start another course.
So, unlike movies, Great Courses access is based on a 30-day window, not the end of the calendar month.
