The Internet is a great and convenient way to keep in touch with families and friends and a large part of our banking, socialization, entertainment and daily intake of news and events. That being said, not everyone on the Internet is a friendly, nor wants to be your friend, unless it’s for some malicious intent. However, there are some simple ways you can identify such scammers and proactively protect you and your family.

To this end, we’ll talk about some of the ways scammers try to engineer and unfortunately convince us into giving them money or control of our lives and how to detect and defend against them. We’ll cover the following attacks,

  • Phishing attacks – what are they, what do they look like and how to protect yourself
  • Gmail account hack – an example that was a little bit too close to home, how it was detected and countered

And what you and your family can do to proactively protect yourself. Covering,

  • How to lock down your cell phone
  • Using passwords
  • How to protect yourself on Facebook

We’ll close off with a Q&A session about Cybersecurity and you.
