Earth Day takes place on Friday, April 22 and is a day dedicated to environmental awareness. The Champlain Library is sharing ways you and your family can participate in Earth Day celebrations while also practicing reading and writing skills. Read a book about the environment and trees. Plant a tree and read about the right tree or plant for your location. Write a poem by using words such as green, recycle, planet or nature. Go for a walk and keep a record of any insects or interesting plants that you see. These activities will help provide opportunities to show our responsibilities for taking care of our planet.

Our Let’s Talk Science kits this week will be “Do it Yourself Bird Feeder Kits. Sign up to receive yours by calling 613-678-2216 or by registering online at Let’s Talk Science Kits while supplies last. For children aged 5 years and older.

The Champlain Library is also offering vegetable, flower and herb seeds to its patrons through its annual Seed Library Program. The seeds have been provided generously by the Vankleek Hill and District Horticultural Society. Gardeners are encouraged to take and submit photos of the plants as they grow so they can be posted on the library’s website and social media platforms.
