We’re excited to share some wonderful news: Champlain Library has once again been officially reaccredited!

This recognition means we’ve met some of the highest standards for library service in Ontario. Think of it like a report card for libraries—we were evaluated on everything from how we manage the library to the programs and services we offer, and we passed with flying colours!

What Does Accreditation Mean?

Every five years, libraries in Ontario have the chance to earn accreditation by showing they follow best practices. This meant meeting 181 specific guidelines! Here’s how we did:

  • 100% scores in areas like planning, policies, and staff.
  • 98.8% in our virtual audit.

While we came close to perfection, we lost a few points due to some building accessibility challenges, like the stairs to the children’s area and the accessible washroom.

Highlights from the Audit Team

The accreditation team had amazing things to say about our library! They were especially impressed by:

  • Fun and creative children’s programs, like scavenger hunts and homework help.
  • Our one-of-a-kind teen space in a former bank vault.
  • Our dedication to connecting readers with the right books through great reader advisory services.
  • Strong community partnerships, such as our homebound delivery service and the Christmas A Book on Every Bed program.

Why This Matters

Being reaccredited is a big deal. It shows that Champlain Library is meeting the needs of our community in the best way possible—and always looking for ways to improve.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, and we’re committed to continuing to make the library a welcoming and accessible place for everyone. Thank you for being part of our journey!
