The final Astronomy Club meeting before summer break is June 30.

The topic is:

“Our Nearest Stellar Neighbourhood: The Alpha Centauri System.”  At only just over four light-years away, astronomers are using this three-star planetary system as the perfect lab to examine how a star similar to our Sun behaves and it’s influence on two other nearby suns of different spectral class.

Known to harbour as many as five exoplanets, the feasibility of life on those worlds will be explored.  Being this close to our solar system enables scientists to glean much information regarding their physical makeup.
