Notan Art Class
The Champlain Library is organizing art classes for adults centered around the fascinating concept of Notan.
Notan is a Japanese design principle that explores the harmonious balance between light and dark—what we often think of as positive and negative space. In each class you will learn new skills and techniques on how to create symmetrical compositions by carefully arranging shapes so that both the “filled” (positive) and “empty” (negative) areas interact in a visually compelling way. Rather than focusing on detail, Notan encourages you to simplify forms and discover beauty through contrast, balance, and rhythm.
No prior art experience is necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
