Discover a Local Mystery from 1883
Join us on Saturday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. for a fascinating local history presentation by Michelle Landriault, Chair of the Library Board, held at the Macdonell-Williamson House.
Michelle will explore the shocking 1883 murders of four members of the Cooke family, who lived on a farm in Little Rideau near Chute-à-Blondeau. The presentation also examines the trial that followed, including the compassionate insanity defence prepared by L’Orignal lawyer John Maxwell, one of the earliest known examples of this legal argument during the Victorian era.
